The real reason I'm posting this is because the third party unwittingly seeded the Warren Giles/Rin-Tin-Tin variation, to commemorate the seven weeks the animal filmstar ran the National League—appointed by the owners so Giles could take a vacation—in the summer of 1955. It's a great card, and hard to find in decent shape.

Ben, despite the large number of Christmas racks offered for sale by otherwise reputable dealers, it is well-accepted that they were NOT produced by Topps. They were repacked by a company at some later date from old inventory. They are a real problem in the hobby, though, as they appear authentic and amazing.

ReplyDeleteI posted a slightly longer comment before that post went "poof." Anyway, I just wanted to say that these Christmas racks were NOT produced by Topps in the year in question. From what little I know, they were likely repacked by some third party at a later date using inventory from elsewhere, perhaps old vending machines. As such, the cards are not factory fresh and from what I hear you are unlikely to pull any major stars.
